I Am Spartacus

My beloved Rick once went to see the extremely clever author Jasper Fforde at a bookstore reading here in Seattle. When Fforde came up to the front to speak, he took a folded paper from his pocket and said, “Before we get started, I have a message here for someone named Spartacus?” And Rick stood up and said, “I’m Spartacus.” And then someone else stood up and said, “No, I’m Spartacus.” A proud moment.

It makes me happy to think of Kirk Douglas knowing that something he made had become so deeply a part of the culture. May he rest in glory.
