Vintage Knits: Two Men’s Cardigans from 1962

Two handsome cardigans from Fashions for Men and Boys by Columbia Minerva, Book 749, published in 1962.

I really like the contrasting stitches on the yellow one. I’ve never tried putting a zipper in a sweater, though. Is it hard?

  1. Funny — for a moment I thought he was checking the internet on his i-pod. I suppose it’s a light meter for that camera? Oh wait, Gillian sez it’s a Hasselblad square format, and yes, he’s holding a light meter.
    She and I were only 1 year old in 1962; she’s obviously been interested in photography for a long time. :)

  2. Putting a zipper in a sweater’s actually quite easy, much easier than knitting a button band. You just need to make sure the zipper isn’t too heavy for the yarn weight or it will distort the sweater. Baste the front together and sew the zipper in just like you would on anything else.
