The Poor Are More Philanthropic than the Rich

Here’s the math: the average poor person gave about $450 dollars a year, which left them about $10,000 to live on. The average rich person gave about $3,300, leaving them about $155,000 to live on.

  1. This doesn’t surprise me at all. I use to work at a military commissary bagging groceries and our only income was from tips. I always found the poorest people tipped the best. Reminds me of that bible story about where Jesus praised the woman who gave her only penny.

  2. There’s some false logic here. The “poor” always spend more as a percentage of income for everything than anyone else.

The “wealthy” actually contribute more money to charities.
