I was very happy to hear that Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have won the Nobel Peace Prize. In his honor, here is a video of his historic 2006 Martin Luther King day speech.
Gore was invited to speak along with Libertarian and former Republican Congressman Bob Barr by the Liberty Coalition, a nonpartisan group dedicated to restoring and protecting civil liberties in the U.S.
Although it starts off rather quietly, this speech winds up as a wonderful example of good old fashioned, rousing oratory, full of righteous indignation and unanswerable arguments. I particularly like the way he exposes how preposterous it is to claim, as so many authoritarians in government have, that the world is more dangerous now than it was in the past.
If you don’t want to watch the whole speech, excerpts are also online at Google video.
