Asking the Wrong Questions

This year, it seems, there is even more consternation among voters than usual over the dunderheaded election coverage in U.S. media. The freeze-out that John Edwards is receiving in the press is a good example.

The Project for Excellence in Journalism compared the amount of press coverage that top Democratic candidates have received over the past week, and found that Edwards got very little.

Where’s John?

When you consider that Edwards is also spending a fraction of what Clinton and Obama are spending on advertising, etc, (see previous post) it’s remarkable how well he’s done in the polls thus far. But it rarely occurs to anyone in the press to ask why that is.

Of course, it is exciting to have a black man and a woman running for president with such apparent success. But I gotta say that I think it’s also exciting to have an unapologetic liberal running. And that is probably why Edwards continues to garner support, even without corporate donors and media attention.
