The Moomins
Tove Jansson’s Moomin books are rare classics of children’s literature that combine really thoughtful and touching stories with beautiful illustrations. Aside from Jansson’s own books, there have been “licensed” books for very small children with illustrations based on the Japanese animated television show about the Moomins, but Jansson’s own books are the real deal. Here are some of her illustrations.

I got a moomin calendar with some of the same woodcut looking illustrations and I want to frame every one of them. She really was brilliant. Did she do the English tranlations as well?
jill
They are so sweet!
Tove Jansson also did the illustrations for an edition of The Hobbit

I so wish I could find a copy.
Having family in Finland I’ve been lucky enough to collect most of the Moomin Books, and am now having the delightful experience of rediscovering them with my 7 year old son.
