Complaints Choirs
Here’s another clever Finnish invention: complaints choirs. Anyone who wants to can join the choir and submit complaints. Then the gripes are set to music and performed for fellow citizens and videotaped to post on the internet. You may have seen the videos from Helsinki and Birmingham on YouTube. The World radio show featured them in one of their global hits segments in December. It seems they’ve set up a website to share information.
Here’s the video of the Helsinki Complaints Choir.

I think this is such a brilliant concept ! I wanted to do something like it here with one of my choirs !
How great! We could start one in Spokane.
I’ll add a complaint to the chorus: “people who copy, then re-post other people’s clips on YouTube, then their own clips get deleted becuase copy after copy pisses of copyright holders.”
Hey, YouTuber. Can’t tell if you’re complaining about me or just talking generally. If you’ve seen clips that you copied from somewhere and posted on YouTube and you’re annoyed when other people copy the clip and post it again, try disabling embedding in the YouTube editing window. It won’t prevent all copying probably, but I avoid copying videos with embedding disabled, cause the poster clearly wants the thing all to themselves.
I gotta tell you, though, posting things that you don’t have copyright permissions for and then complaining about people who repost your videos is like driving your car to work every morning and complaining about the traffic. You can’t have it both ways.
[...] I’m not sure if singing about these minor irritations would really make me feel better, but apparently some folks in Finland feel it does. Another clever Finnish invention: complaints choirs. Anyone who wants to can join the choir and submit complaints. Then the gripes are set to music and performed for fellow citizens and videotaped to post on the internet.
